maybe you could explain to her that usage does not always agree exactly with a dictionary definition of a term and that usage can be broader for good reason or for the reason that there hasn't been a better term to come along.
along those lines, the term 'classical music' has a specific meaning, particular to a period, style and continent and, a broader meaning that includes music that has either been influenced by, or, has grown out of the traditions of that music which specifically defines 'classical music'. (just as it is still possible for someone to have a 'victorian grandmother'.)
