it seems to me that mr. allison may even, personally, regret having to make the decision to drop the met broadcasts. the fact is the audience for opera is not a very large one and without the enthusiasm (meaning $$$) of its relatively small audience, it probably wouldn't exist at all. if a radio station is going to decide its programming as a business rather than a public service, opera will lose, and so will any other music with a small audience.
perhaps an appeal could be made to delay the broadcast to a time when the larger majority is not listening, thereby, giving the station a chance to recoup the audience it has lost by dropping the broadcasts. if that still proves to undoable, perhaps an appeal could be made to play some opera at some time that is not going to go against the logic of the initial decision.
