Dear Dean and Vocalistmates,
Do you know of a computer program which would automatically transpose music? It would be nice to be able to scan music into the computer, have it recognized as notes by the software, and then transposed to a selected key.
A few weeks ago, in my church choir, I learned something about the way I sight read. We were given a pretty little tune to sing called "Pieta, the silence and the sorrow" The soloist for this piece wanted to sing it a full step down, so down went the transpose button on the organ. The tenor harmony (which is already too low, IMHO) consists mostly of singing "Oh" or "Ah" in the background. I struggled with this until I finally sat down and manually transposed my part into my score. I guess I don't sing so much by interval recognition, but rather "see note-sing note". It's hard for me to look at an f4 and sing an eb4. In our choir we often have only one or two read-throughs before were performing the piece in service. Does this ring any bells for anyone else? How do you deal with it?
