A new law just passed in the US allows financial institutions to "share" your private financial data--income, address, Social Security number, etc.--UNLESS YOU OPT OUT (usually in writing) by July 1. If you live in the US, watch your mail closely. Most banks, insurance companies etc. are looking forward to earning $ by selling your information--so they don't want you to notice or understand the notice about the change in law. Basically, it's a huge invasion of privacy, IMHO, and putting the onus on the consumer is completely unfair. It's a very bad law that the financial institutions pushed very hard to have passed.
