well, of course he would expect to be paid!! the pay for the church musician(s) should always be in the church budget, regardless of if they are members of the church or not. if they want to take the check and donate it back to the church, that is their business. but if they are being paid either less than standard rate or not at all and it is not provided for in the budget, these are the difficulties you face with the bean-counter types who run most churches.
