It's well documented that there were times when Bach bemoaned the fact that the quality of the performers left something to be desired, in other words that his music was too difficult for them. I don't remember ever hearing anything about his saying there weren't enough of them. Can you quote me chapter and verse? I'm willing to change my views on this if I'm proved wrong, but I feel very sceptical that this was the case.
I'm sure he would never have been averse to hearing his music played by a large modern symphony orchestra. With more percussion than he could have had at his disposal. ?
