That's not really a vowel. It's a diphthong composed by 'a' and a
semi-vowel, /y/.

Mmm... I don't hear any difference there, and Spanish speakers are
notorious, when they try to speak Portuguese, for being unable to produce
more than one 'o'-like and 'e'-like vowel. That book for teaching American
English Pronunciation I mentioned some posts before corroborates what I
hear: it says Spanish and Japanese are two examples of languages with 5
vowels only.
