two very different cases...the leningrad cowboys cover of 'stairway to heaven' with the red army chorus. it is a mixture of the most overplayed good rock song and the former soviet union's idea of pops. the other example is a little harder to make connections with. scott walker, a brief topic on 'vocalist' some months ago, and one of the strangest rock people ever, did an album in the 80s (i think) that did not have the customary simple rock forms. i am not sure if it is the texture of the music or the morose atmosphere it creates but, for me, it is the only material that is at all close to stockhausen's 'gesang der jungling', the most stark depressing piece i have ever heard.
one could legitimately say that stockhausen himself is far removed from classical music but, that would only bring up the question "at which composer do we draw the line?" for that matter, one could say 'late schoenberg showed some evidence of being influenced by early schoenberg".
