For those who fear ear infections I've discovered two options:
1. Go to your ENT/Otorhinolaryngologist and have custom earplugs made.
The material is mixed with a catalyst and put into your ear canal. When the
chemical reaction is through you have earplugs which never let in water and
through which you can easily hear. There's no suction involved. I've had the
same pair for 25 years.

2. Swim with a mask and snorkle. I've never been to a fitness pool
which won't allow it.
