swimming is a great exercise for a number of reasons. what i was addressing is the peculiar fact that many exercise physiologists consider it relatively poor for fat burning ( most whales and seals seem to concur ). apparently, swimming has to be done on an athletic level in order to be significant as a fat burner ( playing shark at the local pool doesn't count ).
swimming, in addition to being a great exercise for those who are already thin or those who don't mind being a little chunky, has also proven to be therapeutic where other exercises that are better fat burners, like running, often cause a need for therapy.
