Hey, I just got a gig because of a similar situation ... yesterday morning I
got a call from the head of the music dept at the college at which I taught
German diction last semester. He told me that a Dutch conductor is in
residence at the college to conduct a composition of his for baritone and
wind ensemble... but the baritone apparently missed this week's rehearsals
and hasn't returned calls. So now it is a piece for mezzo and wind ensemble!
And the performance is next Friday.

I can't believe anyone would do this. The piece is hard. Really hard. But
if you have doubts, you pick up the phone and say, "geez, I'm in over my
head. Could I have some private coachings? Is there a recording available?"
You don't just NOT SHOW UP and fall OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH. (Sorry to
yell .. I'd use bold and italics but that would only work for AOL readers.)

Makes me look good ... I hope. geezu peezu ...
