Dr. Hanson et al;
I have to admit to not knowing of research that confirms this phenomenon, however, I have had the opportunity to observe singers being scoped for assessment of nodules. In those sessions, the singers produced both an ordinary speech mode and a loft production (opera singer voice). The shift in vocal fold posture was dramatic. You couldn't miss it. That would make my assertion imperical, but, I think you would probably agree. I will check the literature for reference to loft and modal registers. My text on vocal physiology equates loft with falsetto in its explanation--too broad a stroke for this complex subject.
I'll get back to you on this. Michael E. Chesebro, M.A.,C.C.C., S.L.P. Voice & Fax: 714/596-3344
