I was not familiar with Gilles & Nicolas - until I visited
CD Now (those one minute 'bites' aren't really a true
barometer, but they'll have to do for an introduction).
I like Gilles' more burnished voice more than the lighter
lyric of Nicolas & so I would opt for Gilles, definitely.

The 'wuss' factor is a stretch because Emile is attempting to sell
his affectionate intentions to Nellie from the moment he opens his
mouth to observe: "some enchanted evening". The refusal to help
the cause part comes later in the story...long after it's made known
that he's a murderer on the lamb no less (that's what makes him so
appealing for the suicide mission).

No, Emile de Becque's no wuss; what's more - he's a survivor.
