Although I was told at Miami that what I'm doing is not belting (not that anyone told me how to change it so that I was, but that's another topic), other people have said it sounds pretty dang close enough. It's a mix with a lot of "metal" in it. I feel that what keeps it sounding non-classical is my diction. It's a much more lateral production, nearly nasal but not quite, with a lowered palate than my classical style. In other words, for me, classical = vertical, "faux belt" = lateral.
