I just purchased a MIDI cable to connect a synthesizer to my computer at
Future Shop. Any electronics store or music store that sells electronic
instruments should have cables.

As for music notation programs, I really like Finale (www.codamusic.com). If
you are a student or teacher, you can purchase it for a lower price.
