Just to be clear, I'd like to reiterate that Mr. Laudon corrected Ms. Ramalingam's recollection and said she was referring to a practice in place before Adolphe Adams' time.

It is almost always the unspoken case in pop music. It is simply done because it takes less time to write than a triplet sign, etc.
