Hello Everyone, I'd like to begin by thanking all who gave me repertoire suggestions on soprano trios a few weeks ago. The information was of great help and I do appreciate it.
Right now I am having trouble with my contemporary (last set of program) group. My teacher really wants this set to be on the light side as she feels the program is somewhat heavy. She is sort of pushing for musical theater. I have no problem with the repertoire at all. In fact, I've been having a lot of MT songs coached and I'm enjoying it immensely, but I wanted to keep it separate from my recital. I sort of envisioned a classical recital. Right now I'm thinking of doing either a group of gray area/crossover composers such as Weill, Blitzstein, and Ricky Ian Gordon or a group focused on the concept of teaching and learning (I'm a music ed major). I am expecting two pieces in the mail next week: The Voice Teacher (Rene Flemming has been singing this as her encore) and a duet called The Singing Lesson. My question is what do you think of these ideas. Do you have any suggestions of composers/repertoire for the two possibilities that I am considering. If it would be helpful, I would be glad to post my program. Thank you very much for your help and your time.
