Good evening...

Yesterday I discovered a new sound, singing into the nose. Overall it sounds
richer and stable. Is this a technique operatic singers use?
...my teacher always said to sing into the nose, but I didn't understand how
until now.
But now I don't understand what kind of function it performs to the general
sound...
Is this safe for the vocal glands?
Is there a correct way to do it?
Should the resonance be so intense as to vibrate the whole face?
