In regards to Karen's question about Debussy, technically he is a "modern"
composer and certainly his life spans between romantic and modern, ie 20th
century music, but he is not what we today identify as a 20th century
composer. I think in content and texture he is a "romantic" composer
descriptively. You may find him to be one of those that fits into both
categories, but I think for an audition he would be accepted as a modern or
20th century composer. Puccini, a little different. He wrote in the 20th
century - but use him as a 20th century composer in an audition? No.
