Carol, here are three pieces that I performed (when I was a flutist), all available through the Canadian Music Centre . Deep ground, Long waters by Norm Symonds which is quite jazzy in a sultry way; Overheard on a Saltmarsh by Keith Bissell which offers plenty of opportunity for characterization; and if you add a cello, Twelve Miniatures by Harry Somers which has interesting effects like quarter tones, glissandos, whispers and vibrato effects. The texts of the Somers are Japanese Haiku and the instruments can be recorder, harpsichord and gamba as well as flute, piano and cello. This continuo ensemble then opens up the area of Baroque music and the cantatas of Telemann, the nine German arias of Handel etc. etc. Hope this has been of some help. Cheers, Craig
