<< actually chris, to take your response seriously- after years of complaints of how young students should not imitate the mature sounds of adult singers, some having more dramatic voices than any of us will ever have (do we want a sixteen year old baritone imitating george london?), it is a good thing we now have a model for young singers that is young. or maybe we should just tell our students not to bother imitating anyone (they never sound like them anyway). >>
EXACTLY. We should not encourage our young singers to imitate anyone, older or younger. I am of the belief that young singers should sing material that is for young singers, not attempt to vault themselves into heavy repertoire from the get-go. Ms. Church has largely sung appropriate material - although someone has told me that she sings "The Jewel Song" on her most recent recording. Hmm, I wonder who her teacher has told her to imitate?? :)
Mike, this post was productive - thank you. I understand what you mean a lot better than in your previous post.
