Hi all,
Sorry for responding a bit late, but I've only now got the time to try to catch up with my waiting VOCALIST-DIGEST mails. I fully agree with those that said that if you want to sing Danish, Carl Nielsen a good place to start. Wonderful songs. And yes, the language is .... how shall I put it.... interesting. I would like to help with pronounciation, but it's not easy in e-mail :-) To get a sample of how the language sounds, you could try visiting the Danish Broadcasting Company (Danmarks Radio) homepage www.dr.dk - some, but not all of the pages are available in English. You can find audio files with programs (look for little red speaker icons). If you get lost: try this one as example: http://www.dr.dk/p1/knyt/musik.htm. This is a listing of several "serious" talk programs about music and the corresponding sound files. Not much singing in them, though.
Translations from Danish and other text stuff I can answer if you e-mail me personally.
All the best, Karin Mandix (kmx-at-mandix.dk)
