| From: "DIANE M. CLARK (MUSIC DEPARTMENT)" Subject: Celebrating 78 To: vocalist Send reply to: VOCALIST <vocalist>
Fellow singers, how often we speak on this list about the plight of the older singer, and how frequently singers over 35 are considered has-beens and not worth paying attention to in the professional world. I am happy to report that at least one person in the world is taking action in this area, and she is giving the rest of us a chance to do the same.
My dear friend and former voice teacher Vera Scammon, Professor Emeritus of Indiana University, has just released a CD entitled "Celebrating 78." Vera celebrated her 78th birthday in October, and when I visited her Colorado home this past summer, she was excited about preparing to cut this CD. She told me then that proceeds from the sales would go to a fund to benefit singers over 33 years of age. I told her how often this subject was discussed on VOCALIST and that I felt sure many of us would want to help out in this project.
I just had the opportunity to listen to the CD yesterday, and I must say that it is certainly an inspiration to any who might be asking, "Is it too late?" or "Am I too old?" The CD opens with that killer piece, Handel's "Care Selve," sung as beautifully as I have ever heard it. There are several Mozart arias, the Rachmaninoff "Vocalise," "Indian Love Call," "Vienna, My City of Dreams," and others. I invite you to order a CD as a treat for yourself. After you hear it, you may want to order additional copies, as I am doing, as gifts for friends.
The CDs may be ordered directly from Vera Scammon at:
95 Blue Heron Drive Greenwood Village, CO 80121
The cost including shipping is $18, and checks should be made payable to:
Augustana Arts S.O.S. Fund
This donation is tax-deductible. For more information, you may reach Vera at:

Here's your chance to put your money where your mouth is and give some assistance to "mature" singers. So order and enjoy! :-)
