Dear Molly,
Let me add one more note: when I was in high school AND college not one
choir director gave me a chance. I have a big voice - and, I must admit, it
was a bit unwieldy at the time - but I was forced to stand in the back row,
and rarely given a solo. (I am also 5' 2" - so standing in the back row meant
no one could even SEE me!) It was all horribly depressing - but it gave me a
thick skin and a belief in myself that no one can shake.
Now I can say I've sung lead roles on Broadway and sung solos onstage at
Carnegie Hall. And those chicks that got the solos in high school and
college? Haven't heard a peep from them since!
