Naomi asked about 'cheating' on her reflux problems. Anything that encourages excess acid production or allows the actual reflux in a person who has been suffering from GERD will cause the same problems you have been working so hard to control. The upper end of the esophagus and some of the pharyngeal area - particularly the arytenoid cartileges become inflamed (burned with the acid) and you are back where you started. It can easily take up to six weeks for acid-burned tissue to get normal enough for you to feel like your singing is 100 percent.
But then again, it's chocolate :-) Moderation in all things. "Control" of an acid problem is not the same thing as a "cure". Most singers have to be continually vigilant about reflux.
