Of course, I know nothing about the medication. But here's what I do know from my own experience. If it's there longer than a week, it's not a cold. It's probably a bacterial infection (though it could be a mild one). In my case, about 10 years ago, I kept getting "colds" every couple of months that would knock me out for almost a week, and hang on a week or more after that. I didn't go to the Dr, because I was sure it was a series of colds. I finally went, because I was going to be seeing my mother, and I knew she'd harass me unmercifully if I didn't. A sinus infection was diagnosed, and antibiotics and decongestants cleared it right up. Now I get the sinus infection once a year or less - and a cold only about twice a year. If a cold lasts longer than a week, I go to the doctor. Though my last sinus infection was a doozy (made me miss Le Cid with Domingo at Washington Opera!!!!), so I went sooner.
I'm mostly thankful that the flu which is going 'round the Washington area like wildfire has spared me - at least so far! I'm told that this one is very prone to bacterial secondary infections - and my husband is evidene of that. Lucky for me, he was travelling when he got sick, and by the time he got home he wasn't infectious, so I missed getting it from him!
