I "discover" exercises. E.g., one day when I was conversing with one of my cats (decades ago), I discovered that meowing was good for finding the mask and getting the light head voice sound. A snarly meow was good for finding focus. I discovered the nebefits of the gargle in the same way. One day I was gargling (with liquid) and making wonderful vocal noises, and thought, "I think I'll see what I can do without the water." The rest is history!
(Nebefits? Should read "benefits"!)
