I find Bjorling's voice to be the most vibrant, silvery tenor voice I have
ever heard. I find Gigli's voice to be very warm and beautiful, but at
times quite soft (maybe this is due to poor recordings).
And I really don't think he had very good French diction. Bjorling's French
is excellent. Another tenor we shouldn't overlook, who reminds me an awful
lot of Bjorling and Gigli combined is Nicolai Gedda (another Swede).
Bjorling's sound was definetely Nordic in it's strength and quality. As a
child he was in popular demand with his brothers in touring, and it was
there that they learned how to sing strongly. Two more favorite tenors of
mine are Guiseppe di Stefano, and Georges Thill (French tenor). I find di
Stefano to have a very strong masculine sound, while Thill's seems to be
that lovely lyrical sound often heard with French singers.
