I have been taking medication for reflux for a year and a half. My doctor would probably not be happy to hear it but I still occasionally indulge in the forbidden foods (chocolate, jalapenos, tomato-based foods, etc.). Now, I must admit that even before I started the Prilosec I was not experiencing much in the way of noticeable daytime heartburn/reflux symptoms - my reflux was apparently happening at night. I figure I am okay as long as I am limiting the forbidden foods to once or twice per week and eating them early in the day so they are out of my stomach well before bedtime. I feel I have been okay with this and usually don't notice reflux or heartburn symptoms, even with the acidic foods. I am on a pretty strong dose of Prilosec though (20 mg twice per day), your response may differ.
