I was referring to the fact that Schirmer's Arias for Mezzo-Soprano has these notes annotated as "optional." I understand now, thanks to my fellow Vocalisters, that the piece is really a duet and has to be modified for solo performance.
BTW, I have actually never heard any recording of Shirley Verret or Rita Gorr - I will have to find some! I recently placed an order for Denyce Graves' new CD - I wonder if "Mon coeur" is on that CD?
