Several years ago my husband and I used to go on tour and visit at least 4
schools a day, presenting a vocal programme of about 40 minutes. We
presented a very mixed programme, ranging from "I bought me a
cat"(Copland), Lachen und Weinen(Schubert) Voi che sapete(Mozart) and
Memory (Lloyd Webber), amongst others.
After two weeks of a three week tour, one begins to get a bit "kittenish",
to prevent boredom from setting in, although you have to concentrate like
anything, because you don't know whether you have sung something already or
not, when it's the fourth time that day.
Just before going on stage, my husband drew my attention to the line
"If you touch me, you'll understand what HAPPINESS is" and suggested that I
accentuate the H a bit more!
I only realised what he was referring to when I was actually singing it,
and had a very hard time controlling myself. Needless to say, the rest of
the tour was somewhat "uplifted" and some songs got a special smile!
