Your department chairperson is an idiot. As with all suspicious terminal diagnoses, I would strongly urge you to GET A SECOND OPINION!
The only careers for which a 24 year old is too old a novice are athletics and ballet. Unless you're a man and have your heart set on singing boy soprano, you are NOT too old for a music career at the tender age of 24!
If you'd like to give me this wacko chairperson's phone number, I'd be happy to cuss at him/her over the phone. People like that make me GRUMPY!!!
