Hi listers,
First let me wish everyone a belated Happy New Year(Century, Millennium,
Decade, Month, etc). I have been lurking again and have found the topics
lively and interesting.
As to the subject- I am a big fan of guaifenesin! I had a terrible sinus
condition a number of years ago which turned out to be a hypersensiitivity to
antihistimines. It would give me headaches something like a migrane and
usually in the middle of the night. It was positively the worst ailment I
could ever endure. Fortunately, a very wise ENT in Boston figured out the
problem and prescribed Humibid. Turns out it was the pill form of
guaifenesin, and after I discovered that I simply started using Robitussin
Expectorant, which is the form of Robitussin without any other added
mediations.
This is a great remedy when I have a stuffed up sinus due to a cold. Yes, I
do wash it down with lots of water.
However, I have since gone to an even more effective remedy. Accupuncture.
You definitely won't like the treatment itself(needles in the face and such),
but the outcome is tremendous! I had 3 treatments last year(1998, that is)and
was able to sllep on my back for the first time in 10 years. I have only had
minor problems since then and have not had another treatment. Just something
to think about.
As to the conversion of the recipe for the gargle, I use one similar to it,
but measuring is not really necessary. Combine 1/2 a medium onion, juice from
a lemon, a spoonful of salt, a couple of cloves of garlic, a spoonful of
honey and some dried cayenne pepper in about a quart of simmering water. Use
it once , refrigerate the rest and heat it up in your microwave to use later.
It will keep for a couple of days refrigerated. You can adjust the
ingredients to your particular taste.
Now for the real news. I have resolved to return to singing in the year 2000
after a 15 year layoff. More on that later!
