Hello all,
You may or may not remember me. I petitioned the list for advice a month or so ago (INTRO/VOICE: Is 35 too old to start?). I just wanted to share my excitement about my first voice lesson! I took the advice of several of you and contacted NATS. They sent me a list of teachers in my area and I called a couple, spoke to their references and chose a wonderfully spirited woman right down the street from me.
We met for what she had earlier explained would be a kind of audition, but when I arrived she said she could tell from my speaking voice that I was a singer and would accept me (Can you people really tell that much from a speaking voice?) and we went right into a lesson. When my alloted time was finished (1/2 hour), she asked if I would mind staying a bit longer. Her next student did not show up and she said she was having fun because I was such a quick study! I cannot tell you how much I learned in that hour! My confidence is soaring and I'm having so much fun! I forgot how difficult learning (and unlearning) can be but it feels good; kinda like that feeling in your muscles after a good workout: tired and sore, but good!
Thanks for your wonderful and encouraging input. I look forward to enjoying many more of your posts in the future!
Deborah
