I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and the conclusion that I'm drifting toward at the moment is that warming up is as much about warming up the BODY as warming up the voice. For me, at least, it's a process of tuning into my body, assessing and releasing excess tension, being aware of my alignment, letting go of the rushing-around energy that characterizes my non-singing life and bringing myself into a being-still-and-focused energy that is more conducive to my singing.
