I'm getting in at the end of this conversation, and I am not familiar with Seth Riggs, but I just wanted to add that as a high soprano, I was always taught to ignore or change my speaking voice.
When I was younger, teachers heard high notes and assumed that I was making my speaking voice artificially low. After years of experimenting, I realized that if I add more of my "speaking voice" to my singing, I get improved support, a wider range, more drama, and generally easier production. I don't mean that I carry weight up high, but that I warm up from the speaking voice rather than warming up from the singing voice, which for me tends to be more "artificial". Does this make any sense? My high notes are still my best ones, but everything is much freer as I learned to use rather than ignore my speaking voice.
