Dear John:

I assumed Dean was her teacher and was sharing a success, rather than trying
to market a child singer's CD's to the likes of us! I did listen and sent
him a congratulatory note on what sounds like a very healthy, expressive 11
year old voice.

I become close to most of my students and if I feel pain at their momentary
failures, I am not ashamed to be proud of their successes as well. I also am
in the habit of referring to them as my high school soprano or adult
beginning tenor. People who know me or have spoken with me here know that I
teach and am not referring to an actual collection of people which I
possess.

And when one of my students ends up having an MP3 file (whatever that is!)
or a television special or a performance at Carnegie Hall, you're darn
tootin' I'll be blowin' her/his horn from here to kingdom come!

I understand your concerns, I hate being marketed to against my will, but I
really don't believe that was Dean's intention.

Best wishes,

Laura Sharp
Director of Children's Music

Please excuse me Dean, I am confused.

I read "My 11 year old singer". Does that mean she
'belongs' to you? In what capacity do you 'own' her
exactly? If it is in the capacity of being her agent and
selling her CD's through the link which is available on
the page you quoted, then I would have appreciated
it if you could have made it clear that the intention of
your post was a commercial one.

I also have a page on mp3.com, but I will not list it
here. If anyone should choose to preview and
download my free songs, then I am pleased, but I do
not intend using this list as advertising space.

mp3.com uses a ranking system which records the
number of downloads of each song. I sincerely hope
that your message was not posted with the intention of
increasing her ranking and increasing the sales of the
CD's of this girl who 'belongs' to you.

Apart, from all that, I do sincerely wish Kathryn Alison
Acker well in her career, and I hope that she ends up
being owned by nobody other than herself.
