This topic brings to mind a story in Robert Merrill's book, 'Between Acts',
where he talks about a young singer who comes to him and asks if he indulges
before singing. Merrill kiddingly replies that it only helps his singing
and he always does before a performance. The next night at a performance,
this young singer came out on stage looking bedraggled and tired and his
knees were so weak he could barely stand up! Leave it to the jokster
Merill!
