I absolutely agree and I conjecture that music can have even more
positive effects than sport. Much like sport can, involvement in
music can teach: playing as part of a team, self expression and
confidence, discipline, mental agility, physical dexterity ( of some
sort or another - learning to control one's vocal chords, fingers,
hands or whatever you need for your chosen instrument ). I am sure
that music has a much lower ratio of injuries due to taking part than
sport. A sportsperson can be out of action for an entire season due
to an injury picked up in practice or competition. Of course vocal
chords can be injured, but proper care and use will reduce the
likelihood of that happening, whereas even a highly trained athlete
can have an unlucky fall or stride which badly strains a hamstring.
