I don't think so-----after college, don't many singers continue to study with
a private teacher? Therefore continuing to pay?

I've heard many people on the list say that it takes from anywhere up to 7-8
years to have a voice that's ready to begin singing professionally (in opera
-- and I'm sure that some people need less time) So a 4 or 5 year college
program isn't really going to completely prepare a young voice (or any
voice?) is it?

I know that a degree does more than train your voice, I'm not trying to slam
them (wish I had one). But is it enough to really turn an 18 year old
student into a 22 year old opera singer without additional private study?
