Molly,
I can very much empathize with your experience. I am currently a junior
in vocal performance, but last year, my sophomore year, I have nothing but
memories of calling my mother day after day in tears because of things that
happened in the music department. We have a professor here who is very much
similar to the one you mentioned in terms of being umprofessional. Things he
has said about me to other students have gotten back to me and it was most
hurtful. My not getting parts that I thought I deserved was also most
upsetting.
I have to tell you, though, you have to decide if singing really is what
you want to do. I spent a lot of time thinking and praying and realized that
singing really is what I want to do and since changing institutions really
isn't a good choice for me at this point, I made the decision for myself to
just work really hard at singing and know that I am doing what I can and
still try out for things. My current goal is to get into a grad school in
London, and if not there, I am hoping that my efforts will be recognized and
appreciated by someone somewhere else.
In the meantime I am working really hard on singing technique, and trying
to do really well academically.
My heart so goes out to you! Best of luck to you!! and feel free to
email me personally if you need someone to talk to :-)
