No, when Mariah sings live, you're not hearing her voice. You're hearing a signal through loudspeakers. There is ample room for electronic manipulation between mike and speaker.
A good friend of mine has some good stories about Ivan Rebroff's subterranean low notes in this context - but they're probably actionable.
