Just a quick note....Tyne Daly who was the most recent Mama Rose in Gypsy (I think) is the range of the song "Everything's coming up Roses" in the mezzo/belter book and it's ridiculously low. I have that song in 2 other collections and both are higher keys yet still in the mezzo level. Just goes to show you that the key isn't always that important. However, to transpose a drastic amount (which I have heard done) destroys the feel of the character of the piece. I've seen 2 versions of Crazy for You and one had the lead female cast in a high lyric soprano while the second one had her as a belty mezzo. I did prefer the more lyric singer. Just more subjective commentary.. Jacqueline
