I just wanted to chime in on this. . .
A big thing that the study of music provides for anyone, young people
included, is discipline, both mental and physical, and I firmly believe that
discipline is one of the greatest strengths an individual can develop. It
sees you through SO much of life's trevails, and keeps giving back to you as
you grow.
In addition to discipline, the study of music and the arts provides a direct
connection to your inner world, and getting to know yourself at a deep level
is something that aids all adolescents in remaining true to themselves and
their beliefs, at a time in their lives when these are being tested.
I know I'm preaching to the choir here; I just wanted to give my heartfelt
support to what you wrote about music being so short changed in the media.
