It's ok for the pseudo-elite to use sardonic statements without remorse.. it's us commoners who can't.. it's part of the problem with the entire "legitimacy" of this artform. To me it's a bunch of bunk. I've got lots of top (C# every lesson) and when I'm able to sing the really difficult material, I may also have it transposed down 1/2 to 1 step (depending upon the piece) because I plan to sing them often (I don't care where...a neighborhood club would suffice as well as a recital hall to me cause I'd be singing). Some days people feel better than others, and certain notes may or may not be there. Why not be prepared?? btw (I'll look up the Bjorling pieces if someone really wants me to, I just know he did transpose some late in his career).
I apologize for my rather crass post, but it's been almost a full 2 years since I was supposed (as many others were) receive a cassette of each others voices. I've asked politely and mentioned it in a few posts, but was duly ignored. We are all able to disect sentence structure and certain patterns implicitly imply certain thoughts. So please don't feign ignorance, that's insulting to many people on many levels. I can't help that I didn't go when accepted to Mannes, nor follow Gabor Carelli's kind offer at Manhattan School of Music (sadly I'm far from wealthy, but that doesn't mean I'm dull of wit. I'm doing the best with the hand I've been dealt. The one thing that irritates me more than anything else is ego. It has no place in music.
Cordially yours, Russ
