Hi, Paul:
Well, this is an interesting dilemma. Mostly, you should avoid heavy abdominal workouts, and here's why: you want to strengthen them for support, yes; HOWEVER! -- doing too heavy a workout will cause them to tighten up and become restrictive. When you take a huge singing breath, you need your guts to GET OUT OF THE WAY!, and if your abs are too tight, they won't, and you won't be able to get a good solid breath. Better to practice yoga or something that increases your strength, endurance and FLEXIBILITY.
My $.02..
Happy singing! Rebekkah Graves http://www.rebekkahgraves.com http://www.mp3.com/rebekkahgraves
