Dear Susi, There are some beautiful songs published by Transcontinental Music Publications that are perfect for a Bar Mitzvah and good for a light soprano. Two that come immediately to mind are Light of Torah by Cantor Rachelle Nelson (written with a choir part, but easy to sing as a solo) and B'ni by Michael Isaacson, which translates as "My son" but would be fine for a sister as a representative of the family. Does she want to sing in Hebrew or English? Will she have an accompanist? A good one or a band? These are important questions. Transcontinental can be found on the web at: http://www.uahc.org/transmp/ >From that site you can also e-mail the publisher to ask for other suggestions. Hope that helps. Feel free to e-mail me personally with other Jewish music questions. Cantor Judith K. Rowland Baltimore Hebrew Congregation
