Hi Vocalists,
I'd really like to thank everyone who responded to my request for help in selecting an Italian piece from the plethora of great ones out there. I selected "O del mio dolce ardor" which has in it a glorious 'e' which I, a bass-baritone, can hit quite well. By the way, "O del..." is my 'technical' piece for a competition I am doing.
I picked "The Erl King" for my 'emotional' piece. In it, especially at the end when the child is pleading with his father, he just STAYS on that d-sharp/e for like seven or eight notes, and by that time (one has already sung seven pages) it is just so tiring. They hardly come out more that squawks. Any advice from anyone out there? Should I just practice, practice, practice those Es (the competition is in February), and after a while they will be strong enough to sing? I really like the qualities of this song, but it may not work out, so could you wonderfully knowledgeable guys and gals please suggest maybe another song that is as dramatic and emotional and technically as challenging as 'Erl King'(English please)? Thanks in advance!
Jay Linville
Bass-Baritone
