"Vox" is the Latin word for voice. e.g. The "Vox Humana" stop on an organ literally means "Human Voice." (Although at one church where I worked it was so hideous that I asked the organist what that said about people's thoughts about singing!)
Another use of the word is in the 20th century work (I forget the composer-shame on me!) "Vox Balenae" which is literally "Voice of the Whales" and incorporates actual whale "songs."
