This is a good point - always a good idea to look ahead to where you're planning on transferring to! I transferred from a 2-year college into a 4 year university music program and had no problems transferring in at 3rd year, but that's because the colleges in this region (Vancouver Canada) work with the universities to ensure transferability. I'm glad I spent my first two years at college, because the class sizes were small, and the theory, ear training, and history classes were all taught by seasoned professors of very high quality. In third year at university, I found that I had an advantage over the students who had gone through 1st & 2nd year there because their eartraining and some of their academic classes had been taught by inexperienced graduate students - unfortunately a practice which is becoming more & more common with funding cutbacks.
